Rory Lancman, Former Assemblymember, Officially Launches Bid for Battleground State Senate Seat in Nassau County
Lancman enters the race with deep Nassau County experience at the Village and County level, and a two-to-one fundraising advantage over the incumbent
NASSAU COUNTY – Today Rory Lancman, a former New York State Assemblymember and New York City Council Member living in Great Neck, where he is an elected member of the Great Neck Library Board of Trustees and a former vice-chair of the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority, announced that he is officially running for the Democratic Nomination for New York State’s 7th Senate District, a key pickup priority for the New York State Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.
Lancman enters the race with support from the Nassau County Democratic Party, including party Chair Jay Jacobs and United States Congressman Tom Suozzi, as well as with a significant amount of cash on hand, strongly positioning him to take on incumbent Republican Senator Jack Martins. Since forming an exploratory committee just over one month ago, Lancman has reported raising over $154,000 in donations, demonstrating his robust fundraising abilities. Over the same time period Jack Martins has not received any campaign contributions.
Lancman is running for state senate to make life less expensive, hold the government more accountable, and keep Long Island communities safe. Leveraging his experience as a military veteran, civil rights attorney, and public servant, Lancman plans to focus his efforts on addressing the issues that matter most to Long Islanders. If elected, Lancman will join the Senate Democratic Majority, finally giving North Shore residents a voice where decisions are truly made in the halls of Albany.
Lancman is a nationally recognized attorney for a prominent Jewish civil rights organization fighting antisemitism on Long Island and across the country, and is a significant contributor to improving life in Nassau County and saving taxpayers’ money. He was elected a trustee of the Great Neck Library on a platform opposing censorship in the library, and he served two years as president; he oversaw the Public Service Commission from its Plainview office as New York State Special Counsel for Ratepayer Protection, where he helped impose record fines on PSEG and establish two new water authorities to lower rates; he served as Vice Chairman of the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority andexposed wasteful spending and improper budgeting practices in the Blakeman administration; and he currently serves on the board, and chairs the finance committee, of the Nassau University Medical Center, working to save it frominsolvency.
Rory Lancman said: “I’m a serious problem solver with experience lowering costs for middle class families, rooting out waste, combating corruption, and making communities safer – exactly what Nassau County’s north shore communities need but aren’t getting from the incumbent part-time legislator in the minority party. I’ve lowered the growth in property taxes, electric and utility bills, and other costs to consumers; confronted powerful politicians of both parties who break the law; passed laws making it harder for criminals to prey on women, children and the elderly; and held accountable institutions that harbor and spread antisemitism and all forms of bigotry. This is the record and the vision our communities deserve in Albany. I’m grateful to already have the support of so many Nassau residents, including our Congressman Tom Suozzi, and look forward to meeting directly with as many voters as possible over the course of this campaign.”
Congressman Tom Suozzi said: “Nassau County deserves a State Senator who is willing to fight for them. Rory Lancman has spent his career doing just that; working to bring down our cost of living, root out government corruption, and stand up to antisemitism. We need more commonsense Democrats like Rory in Albany. I’m thrilled that he has chosen to run for State Senate and will proudly support him in this race.”
Jay Jacobs, Chairman of the Nassau County Democratic Committee, said: “Rory Lancman brings the experience, credibility, and steady leadership Senate District 7 needs. As a former Assemblyman and former Vice Chairman of NIFA, Rory understands both the challenges families face and how to navigate government to deliver real solutions. I trust his integrity, respect his judgment, and know he will be a strong, effective advocate, and be able to deliver the results this district needs. It’s time to move past Republican performative politics and elect a leader with the knowledge and vision to bring real resources home and truly improve people’s lives.”
Assemblymember Charles Lavine said: “I’ve known Rory Lancman for many years, including as a colleague in the New York State Assembly. Rory is smart, compassionate, and profoundly dedicated to public service. He will make an excellent State Senator. I look forward to welcoming Rory back to Albany and working together on behalf of Long Islanders.”
