Rewiring America applauds Governor Hochul’s proposed cap-and-invest program
New York would be the second state to join over 100 cities, counties, towns and villages electrifying new buildings
Albany, NY – Today, Governor Hochul submitted her executive budget proposal to the legislature for its consideration. New York’s buildings are the state’s largest emitters of carbon pollution and the governor proposes an effective plan to electrify new and existing homes.
“The Governor has submitted an electrifying executive budget proposal that will prevent decades of carbon pollution in newly constructed homes,” said Michael Hernandez, Rewiring America’s New York Policy Director. “If Speaker Heastie supports this long-overdue proposal, New York’s future homes will be healthier, cleaner and more affordable. We also applaud Governor Hochul for including rebates to replace dirty and expensive fossil fuel systems for homeowners. This is precisely the policy needed to help New Yorkers electrify and live in healthier homes.”
