WHY: Over 15,000 nursing home residents have died in New York State since the pandemic began a year ago, the most of any state in the nation. The State Attorney General raised serious questions about transparency and infection control in New York nursing homes in a blockbuster January 28 report. With Governor Andrew Cuomo and lawmakers negotiating the State Budget this month, New York needs nursing home reform now; AARP New York has proposed a Five-Point Nursing Home Reform plan.
