Albany, NY The 2.5 million member New York State AFL-CIO has endorsed passage of Proposal One, the New York State Equal Rights Amendment.

“The Union Movement represents individuals from all backgrounds and identities, and we are committed to the fight for social justice. Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable, and it is time that we amend our State Constitution to reflect that,” said Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO.

“The Equal Rights Amendment will provide critical protections for New Yorkers in the workplace and beyond. We look forward to educating, engaging and mobilizing our members to ensure that the Equal Rights Amendment passes on Election Day,” Cilento added.

If ratified, the Equal Rights Amendment would amend the Equal Protection of the Law provision of the New York State Constitution to add ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex including sexual orientation, gender identity, and reproductive health and autonomy, to the existing protected classes of race, color, creed and religion.
