MEMO IN SUPPORT OF INCREASED SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FUND INVESTMENT

By Statewide Coalition | May 4, 2026

To meet the urgent challenges facing our energy system, we urge New York State leaders to invest $3 billion annually in the Sustainable Future Fund until a cap and invest program is fully implemented with strong safeguards to protect disadvantaged communities from pollution.

Energy demand is rising, yet New York is not producing enough power to meet projected needs. At the same time, fossil fuel price volatility is driving energy costs higher and placing a burden on working families.

We must keep clean energy projects moving and build our way out of this crisis to stay on track. Local clean energy is the fastest, most cost-effective, and reliable path to powering our economy, lowering costs, improving public health, and reversing the legacy of pollution and increasing direct investments in disadvantaged communities.

We are calling for sustained, predictable funding with labor standards attached to modernize the grid, expand transmission, improve energy efficiency in our homes and buildings, and deploy projects through all agency avenues at the necessary scale, all while supporting good union jobs and reducing pollution across the state.

A recurring $3 billion investment in the Sustainable Future Fund, paired with direct investments in disadvantaged communities, will ensure New York stays on track to build a resilient, affordable, healthier, and equitable clean energy future.
