ALBANY, New York – On May 6 and 7, leaders from the life insurance industry, whose companies provide vital products and financial security in times of need, gathered in Albany for the 22nd annual Life Insurance Council (LICONY) Day on the Hill events. LICONY members arrived to discuss issues of importance to the industry and New York consumers, just as legislators returned to the 2024 session following a two-week break.

Kicking things off on Monday evening, LICONY hosted a reception at the Fort Orange Club, where guests enjoyed networking and catching up on current events and life insurance news. LICONY President and CEO Rich Loconte welcomed guests to the event, which included legislators and Department of Financial Services (DFS) staff, followed by remarks from LICONY Board Chair, and Guardian Life Chief Legal Officer, Kermitt Brooks. Many officials attended the reception, including Assemblymembers David Weprin, Pam Hunter, Steve Hawley, Catalina Cruz, and Ken Blankenbush; Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt; Senate Insurance Chair Neil Breslin, Senator Grace Lee and DFS staff Tanuja Mohapatra, Kate Powers, and Dallas Trombley among many others.

Earlier in the day, LICONY held an in-person Legislative & Regulatory Committee meeting in the Fort Orange Club’s President’s Room, where members discussed the status of their legislative and regulatory agenda and prepared for the meetings planned with state legislators the next day. On Tuesday, LICONY members fanned out across the Capitol and met with State Senators, Assemblymembers, and their respective staff to discuss industry priorities that will assist the life insurance industry in supporting policyholders. The meetings provided members the opportunity to discuss their company’s presence in New York, the value of the products they sell to New York families, and the significance of the bills on LICONY’s Affirmative Legislative Agenda.

LICONY thanks all the members who traveled to Albany to attend Day on the Hill events, as well as the legislative and regulatory leaders who graciously gave their time to participate in the two-day event.
