Joseph Alston Joins The Business Council’s Government Affairs Team

ALBANY – The Business Council of New York State announced Wednesday, Joseph Alston, has joined the Government Affairs team as a Director of Government Affairs. In his role, Joe will focus on issues related to Housing, Construction, Transportation, Economic Development, and the emerging industry of Digital/Virtual Currency and Assets.

Mr. Alston has an extensive background in both city and state government. Before joining The Business Council, he served as Director of Special Projects with the New York State Department of Financial Services, overseeing mergers & acquisitions while working on several key financial policy issues impacting New Yorkers.

In addition, Joe has experience as a project manager working with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, where he performed Project Controls for a $163,000,000 project portfolio. Prior to that, he served as Project Manager at Hunt Guillot & Associates.

“Joe is a key addition to the Government Affairs staff at The Business Council,” said Paul Zuber, Executive Vice President of The Business Council. “In his role, Joe will oversee policy in several important business sectors that our membership has a vested interest in. His extensive background working in state and local government will be an asset in his current role.”

Mr. Alston is a New York native, passionate about serving the community. In the past, he has worked to provide New York’s youth with educational and professional opportunities under his leadership as the Program Director of the Henry Street Settlement and Director of the College Success Office at the Harlem Children’s Zone.  Joe also spent time as Legislative and Budget Director with the New York City Council and attended The City College of New York (CUNY), where he received his bachelor’s degree in political science and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Colin Powell School of Civic and Global Leadership (CUNY).
