Joint Statement from Business Council of New York, New York State Latino Restaurant, Bar & Lounge Association, New York City Hospitality Alliance, and New York State Restaurant Association on Findings from The Commission to Study Reform of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law
This week’s release of the report from the Commission to Study Reform of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law is a critical step in modernizing New York’s liquor laws. New York’s current liquor laws are some of the most restrictive in the nation and have resulted in an anti-competitive and overly bureaucratic market that hampers economic growth and poses unnecessary burdens on its alcohol and hospitality industries.
We thank Governor Hochul and the State Legislature for bringing together a diverse group of industry experts to identify policy solutions that will benefit New York. Out of the 28 policies considered, 18 received a “yes” vote from a majority of commission members. We urge the State Legislature to advance these 18 common-sense recommendations through the legislative process this year and continue to look at additional issues that will support different industry stakeholders and help spur economic development in New York State.
