Gov. Hochul’s Budget Fails to Fund Crumbling Roads & Bridges

By Rebuild NY Now | February 1, 2023

Fred Hiffa from Rebuild New York Now offered the following quote on Governor Hochul’s Executive Budget:

“It’s no secret that New York State’s roads are riddled with potholes. Despite having some of worst road and bridge conditions in the country, Governor Hochul’s budget proposal fails to provide enough funding to fix our rapidly deteriorating infrastructure.

Thanks to record high inflation, the costs for highway construction materials have soared and reduced the State Department of Transportation’s Road and Bridge Construction program to the lowest real spending level in nearly a decade.

That’s why Albany must invest an additional $1.128B to the 2023-24 budget for state and local highway construction. This infusion of funding will finally allow desperately needed repairs on our roads and bridges.

New Yorkers depend on their state representatives to keep them safe and protected and this added investment will do just that. Say no to more potholes and yes to a safer future for New York.”
