CWA, 1199 & NYSNA Call on Governor To Sign Safe Staffing Legislation Ahead of Anticipated Passage by NYS Legislature
New York – The Communications Workers of America District 1, 1199SEIU and the New York State Nurses Association will hold a press conference alongside lawmakers Tuesday, May 4 at 11:45 AM celebrating the anticipated passage of the hospital staffing committees bill (A108B/S1168A), and the standard minimum nursing home staffing levels bill (A7119/S6346) by the legislature and call on the Governor to sign the package into law. The event will come ahead of the legislature’s vote on the bills, and will feature union members sharing personal stories around the need for safe staffing in their workplaces.

Together, the bills would establish enforceable standards and frameworks for bringing minimum staffing standards to hospitals and nursing homes. The new requirements, once passed and signed into law, would bring much needed transparency and accountability and improve the quality of care and safety for patients.
