Carpenters for Progress today announced the launch of a six-figure independent expenditure campaign supporting Carl Wilson in the upcoming special election for New York City Council District 3, backing a candidate widely recognized on Manhattan’s West Side as a champion for working people, strong neighborhoods, and responsible growth.

The effort will deploy an aggressive paid communications campaign highlighting Wilson’s broad support, his record of community leadership and his commitment to expanding economic opportunity through strong union jobs, affordable housing, and safer streets. The independent expenditure will prioritize targeted social media and digital advertising as well as direct mail, starting immediately. The election is April 28th.

“Carl Wilson understands that strong neighborhoods are built by investing in working people and creating opportunities for New Yorkers to build stable, middle-class lives,” said said Robert Forster, Treasurer of Carpenters for Progress. “As Chief of Staff to Council Member Erik Bottcher, Carl worked alongside a leader who was a true friend to organized labor and a champion for working families. Our investment reflects our confidence that Carl Wilson will carry forward that same commitment to working people and deliver the leadership District 3 deserves.”

A longtime Hell’s Kitchen resident and former Chief of Staff to Bottcher, Wilson has built a reputation as a hands-on problem solver who works closely with residents, small businesses, and community leaders to address neighborhood concerns and secure resources for local schools, nonprofits, and public spaces.

Carpenters for Progress is an independent expenditure committee funded by the New York City District Council of Carpenters. The organization backs candidates who share the labor movement’s commitment to safe jobs, strong wages, responsible development, and policies that create pathways to the middle class for working families.
