Brown & Weinraub adds three long term colleagues as Partners of the firm: Alex Betke, Carolyn Kerr and Michael Cassidy

David Weinraub is pleased to announce Alex Betke, Carolyn Kerr and Michael Cassidy as Partners of the firm.

Alex Betke is an attorney and registered lobbyist focusing his practice on Government Relations and Municipal Law, a unique combination of legal concentrations allowing him to meet clients’ needs at all levels of government and to provide innovative resolutions to a variety of legal challenges. Alex served as an elected official in local government and maintains strong relationships with leaders throughout the Hudson Valley; he serves on the Board of Directors of Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. Alex is well-versed in the legislative process and has extensive knowledge of funding streams at state and local levels of government. Over the last several years Alex has represented industry leaders on complex legislative proposals involving property casualty insurance, title insurance, workers compensation, and medical malpractice insurance.   Alex has successfully secured passage, averted advancement, and amended countless legislative initiatives.

Alex recently was recognized among the Upstate New York Power 100 by City & State NY and was included in Who’s Who in Government Relations by City & State NY.

Carolyn Kerr, who serves as lead of Brown & Weinraub’s health care practice, joined the firm after serving four years as vice president of government affairs for UnitedHealth Group in New York. Carolyn also served in the Governor’s Counsel’s office working on Health and Human Services. She is particularly knowledgeable in the areas of health care funding, reform agendas, health information technology, behavioral health, and community-based provider issues, as well as legislative and budget history.

Michael Cassidy joined Brown & Weinraub after serving as Assistant Director of State Operations in the New York State Governor’s office where he helped oversee the day-to-day operations of all executive departments, agencies, and authorities. He earlier worked for the Senate Investigations & Government Operations Committee and in the office of Assembly Majority Leader Ron Canestrari. He currently serves as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee’s Standing Committee on Ethics. At the firm Michael’s diverse portfolio includes financial services, information technology, gaming, energy and environment, economic development, and higher education.
