Appellate Division Rejects Their Filing for the Third Time
Brooklyn, NY — The Brooklyn Democratic Party announces that the Appellate Division, Second Department has once again declined the efforts of NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Congressional candidate Brad Lander, and County Committee Member George Albro, who sought an Order to Show Cause as amici in the pending appeal. The Court’s action marks yet another rejection of attempts by outside political actors to insert themselves into an internal Party matter that has no connection to their official duties, no relevance to public policy, and no bearing on the legal questions before the Court.
There are increasingly desperate attempts underway to overhaul the County Committee’s organizational structure through the courts. These efforts — often accompanied by pressure campaigns and threats toward elected officials to “side with petitioners” because of the upcoming general election — raise serious concerns. The behavior mirrors undemocratic, MAGA‑style tactics aimed at power grabs rather than genuine reform.
Play by the rules. Respect the process.
Once again, the proposed amicus submission was based on a misinterpretation of Party rules and represented an effort to involve themselves in something they have no business being in. It had no relevance whatsoever to the legal questions before the Court. The Appellate Division’s refusal to sign underscores that point decisively.
As community critics have noted, “We didn’t elect you to engage in internal disputes — we elected you to address the real needs of New Yorkers.”
The disappointment is real.
The Brooklyn Democratic Party remains focused on transparency, modernization, and strengthening internal processes so that our County Committee can continue its work without unnecessary distractions. We encourage all leaders to prioritize the real issues affecting Brooklyn families every single day — affordability, safety, immigrant protections, jobs, and community stability.
