‘Livability for All?’ Summit to Explore Inequities in Neighborhoods Across State
Lt. Gov. Hochul to Address Planners, Advocates, Faith Leaders from Around NYS
WHAT: Livable Communities have never been more important, with the COVID-19 pandemic exposing and exacerbating disparities in communities of color such as unaffordable housing, access to healthcare and subpar public transportation. AARP New York is convening community activists, urban planners, land bank officials, scholars, government officials, advocates and religious leaders to brainstorm solutions during an interactive virtual summit.
The summit will include remarks from Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul; a keynote by Olatunji Oboi Reed, the founder of Equiticity, a racial equity movement working to improve the lives of Black, Brown and Indigenous people of color, and CEO of the Equiticity Ventures startup; and an exploration of inclusionary zoning – a policy aimed at bringing affordable housing to more neighborhoods through land use and building codes – by Noah Kazis, Legal Fellow at New York University School of Law’s Furman Center.
