Albany leaders do your job: stand up for child sexual abuse survivors. Investigate CHUBB”

New York – Today, the Coalition for Just and Compassionate Compensation (“CJCC”) –  an independent alliance of survivors of child sexual abuse, their representatives, and advocates seeking full restitution for survivors of child sex abuse – announced a digital ad campaign calling on Albany legislators and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to investigate CHUBB Insurance for failing to fulfill their contractual obligation to pay claims of childhood sexual abuse under the New York Child Victims Act (CVA). The campaign, which will run on LinkedIn, comes as CHUBB refuses to pay a single CVA claim in cases involving the Archdiocese of New York – undermining the CVA’s intent, and jeopardizing fair compensation for child sexual abuse survivors.

Next Tuesday, April 2, key oral arguments are set to take place in the New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division in the lawsuit between CHUBB and the Archdiocese of New York – a critical case that will determine whether or not CHUBB is legally obligated to pay insurance claims for child sexual abuse survivors. In their lawsuit, Chubb claims they don’t have responsibility for a single insurance obligation in any CVA cases involving the Archdiocese – part of a national and statewide insurance strategy to delay and deny claims in child sexual abuse cases.

“CHUBB claims ‘it’s the right thing to do’  to provide a bond to cover sexual abuse judgment against Donald Trump, while proactively denying justice for child sexual abuse survivors and undermining the Child Victims Act – it’s time for Albany to do something about it,” said David Catalfamo, Executive Director of the CJCC. “For months, survivors have written to DFS, calling for an investigation into CHUBB’s practices so that they might finally see some semblance of justice, but instead, they’ve been met with silence. The longer CHUBB holds out, the more survivors are hurt – the clock is ticking for Albany officials to hold big insurers accountable.”

Earlier this month, CHUBB backed former President Donald Trump’s $91.6 million bond in the E. Jean Carroll case, while continuing to deny restitution for thousands of child sexual abuse survivors.
